Daily Devotional: We Are Covered

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.  I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”  For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.

  • Psalm 91:1 – 4

What things concern you today?

The Bible tells us not to be afraid, because God will cover us under his wing and in his presence we will find refuge.

When you worry, it is a signal to your soul that you are beginning to forget grace.  You see, grace says, God is for you and he wants to move through each today with you.  Remembering this truth, doesn’t empty your life of concern.  Instead it gives you strength to face life’s concerns because you know that God is with you.

So when you are concerned, God’s word to you is this:  Don’t try to be strong in yourself.  Instead run to Jesus and let him cover you.  Find refuge under his wing.  Find strength in the arms of your Savior.

The story of Jesus coming into this world reveals this so clearly.  On that first Christmas Mary and Joseph needed God to cover them.  They both faced so much concern and uncertainty.  They needed God to open the right door at just the right time.  They needed supernatural provision and protection. And God was faithful to them.  He brought an understanding aunt named Elizabeth to Mary.  He found an innkeeper with a full house but an empty stable.  He sent angels to guide during moments of doubt and uncertainty.  He brought shepherds as a welcoming party.  He placed a star in the sky to guide wealthy kings with gifts that provided for a trip to Egypt.  He gave visions so they knew the next step on their journey.

In all of this we see a God who covers us under his wing like a mother hen covers and cares for her chicks.

The good news of grace is that God wants to cover you just like he covered Mary and Joseph.  So run to him today and find protection under the shelter of his wing.

What concerns do you have in your life today?  What is your first response when you are worried?  Do you run to Jesus or do you try to figure life out on your own?  Spend a few minutes today enjoying the peace that comes knowing that you are covered by a loving God.
