GRACE MEANS A NEW IDENTITY
I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel.
- Galatians 1:6
Here is reality. We are all prone to walk away from the grace of Jesus. Walking away doesn’t make sense but for some strange reason we often do.
And so a good question that helps us to see if we have walked away from grace is this: What words do I use to construct my identity? Smart. Quiet. Doctor. Lawyer. Slow reader. Beautiful. Single. Tired. Busy. Broken. Failure. Father.
All those are words may be true descriptors but do you know what words God uses when he defines us in Jesus? Loved. Accepted. Forgiven. Saint. Righteous. Victorious. Blameless. Son. Daughter. Friend.
In this I’d like you to realize you are not who you say you are. You are who God says you are. So let go of the critical labels other people stick to your soul. Let go of your negative branding. It doesn’t suit an honored child. Instead, let God manage your identity. Be a billboard of his mercy by letting his grace define you.

Why do you think we are so prone to forget our identity in Jesus? What words do you use to construct your identity? Are those words based on God’s grace?
