Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
- 2 Corinthians 5:17
Grace doesn’t leave us as we are. It calls dead people to life. It seeps into hard hearts and softens things. It produces peace, patience, goodness, kindness, gentleness, love and self-control. Grace changes lives, rebuilds families, and restores relationships because Jesus is faithful to accomplish his work in our lives.
Can you imagine life without change? It would be devastating. Imagine how hopeless you would feel if you had to stay the way you are – walking around the same cul-de-sac of sin. Imagine how hopeless life would be if each generation was destined to repeat the same mistakes as the generation before.
Grace says the sin cycle can stop and things can change. Grace says Jesus accepts us as we are and he changes us into who we want to be. Grace says God won’t rest until his work is accomplished and we are mature.
Personally I don’t understand all the ins and outs of grace but I do know this: grace meets us where we are but it does not leave us where we were found. Grace invades our lives. It makes us new creations. Our old life passes away and a new life comes.
What areas of your life changed in 2017 and what do you hope changes in 2018 because of God’s grace?
