We Are Judas

Today as you prepare for Easter, consider Judas.  It was on a Wednesday that Judas conspired against Jesus.  Judas was upset because his life wasn’t going the way he wanted it to go and Jesus wasn’t doing what he wanted him to do.  Judas wanted comfort, success, power and wealth and Jesus seemed to be leading him away from these things.  Jesus was okay with a woman “wasting” money to anoint his feet with oil.  Jesus was losing respect from the religious and political leaders that Judas wanted so badly to impress.  Jesus was moving in a direction that Judas didn’t like, so he took matters into his own hands to get what he wanted.

Here is a question for you to consider today as you prepare to celebrate Resurrection Sunday.  How are you like Judas?  In other words, what isn’t going your way in your life?  In what ways are you upset with where Jesus is leading you?  How are you taking matters into your own hands and trading your friendship with Jesus for a few pieces of silver?  As you answer these questions, take time to pray this prayer.  Jesus have mercy on me, a sinner.

If you don’t realize you are Judas, the gospel of Jesus’ resurrection passes from good news that gladdens your soul to just news – lifeless words on a page.
